Elegant Bird Die Samples from Leadership

It never fails that my wish list should grow after attending a Stampin' Up! event. I didn't think I needed the Elegant Bird die for the Big Shot (#125593, $21.95), but now it's on my list! Check out these projects! This one makes me smile! It was part of the display from the Corporate Office.

And this gorgeous card was one that Shelli demonstrated on stage. She has also shared some great samples on her blog this month. Make sure to check them out there: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.

I was thinking more about Leadership 2012 classes, especially the one by Amy Swartz and Paula Critchlow, who presented "Including a New Generation in Your Stamping Business". Since I am on the older side of this new target generation, I kind of felt like I would know everything. That wasn't the case! The class definitely planted some seeds and got me thinking about new ways to connect with potential customers...of all ages!

And to move forward in that direction, I finally signed up for Pinterest last night. Wow! What an amazing site! I already have other 50 pins and can tell this is going to be a great tool for keeping track of random ideas, projects, and things I want to remember. Teacher's Apple with Designer Rosette Die

I love attending Stampin' Up! events and viewing the incredible displays of projects from the home office. Check out this apple, created with six layers of cardstock rosettes. This project can be easily reproduced using the new Designer Rosette die for the Big Shot. Just trim down the cardstock to different widths to create the varying size rosettes for each layer of the apple.

I love going to Stampin' Up! events because I come home feeling inspired and motivated to try new things in my business. One of my favorite classes at Leadership 2012 was Patsy Waggoner's (and Donna Griffith's) presentation called "Retaining and Engaging Your Downline". I felt like Patsy was speaking right to me. I am in the same place she was a year ago, and I can only hope that by incorporating some of her ideas that I can enjoy the same downline growth that she has. I'm going to start by sending a survey to my downline to get some feedback about what they want.

Which reminds me of another great presentation by Brian Pilling called "Sharing the Stampin' Up! Opportunity". Really, Brian's presentation was more about the fundamentals of interacting with people and building a relationship...whether that be as a potential recruit or as a new friend. It really made me think about the various stages of developing any new relationship and the importance of listening and being aware of the needs of others.

Is it crazy that I am already looking forward to the next Stampin' Up! Event!? I hope you'll join me!

Sweet Shop Designer Stickers

2012 Sale-A-Bration: Sprinkled Expressions Valentine Card

Here's another card using the heart from the Sale-A-Bration stamp set Sprinkled Expressions. This one uses more traditional Valentine colors: Blushing Bride and Poppy Parade. I used markers to color the sentiment with different colors before I stamped it. It's hard to tell in the photo, but I added a little Dazzling Details to the little hearts above the greeting.

I designed this little gift tag to go with some of the calendars that I sent out to customers earlier this month. The card is small -- only 2-3/4" x 4-1/4". Basically, it's a quarter sheet of cardstock folded in half. (I did not put it in an envelope). I really like the combination of these two In Colors: Pool Party and Wisteria Wonder. The little heart paper is from the Sweet Shop series in the Occasions Mini Catalog.

Whew! I am home from Leadership and apparently needing to catch up on sleep. I've fallen asleep on the couch EARLY both nights since I've been back. Oops!

Sweets for the Sweet Gift Tags

I love these little gift tags created with the Sweet Shop Designer Paper from the new Stampin' Up! Occasions Mini Catalog and the Sweets for the Sweet stamp set in the big catalog. Every one of the new 2013 In Colors are featured in the Sweet Shop paper designs. I can't decide which color I like best! I used the coordinating In Color polka dot brads in these tags that helps to pull them all together. So sweet!

Creative Elements Gift Tag

Here's another gift tag made with the Two Tags die, like the tags I posted yesterday. I kept it really clean and simple. The butterfly was inked with Pool Party and then rolled in the darker Island Indigo ink. This easy technique, called Rock 'N" Roll and is perfect for new stampers! I used Dimensionals under the scallop circle, and don't forget the three little rhinestones!

Tonight I packaged up another 65 calendars to send out tomorrow. I have been swamped trying to catch up on everything. Things just seem to take longer than I think they will. But thanks to some help from Amy and Jen, I'm almost done getting the updated 2012 4x6 Calendars out! I plan to take almost 100 packages to the post office tomorrow and will finish up the rest to mail on Tuesday.

Sale-a-bration Sneak Peek: Fresh Vintage Thank You Card

I designed this card for our December Demonstrator group meeting using the new Sale-a-bration stamp set called Fresh Vintage. Mark your calendar -- Sale-a-bration is just around the corner! Top Note Flap Card

My friend Meg Loven demonstrated this tip at our demonstrator group meeting in November. You know how I love new ways to use the products I already have, so I was all over this! I designed this card for Stamp Club back in November and just realized that I never posted it!

Here's the inside. You'll see that only the left flap is cut with the design from the Top Note die. But wait a sec...how??

It's almost TOO easy! If you own a Big Shot, you know it's all about creating the right "sandwich". You need the right thickness to put pressure on the die to cut. The die will only cut when the thickness of the sandwich is just right. So the key to this project is positioning the cutting plate to cover ONLY the part you want to cut. As you can see in the photo below, the top cutting pad is only covering the end of the Top Note. The rest of the Top Note shape will not cut because it's not the right thickness to put pressure on the die.

The cutting plate will leave a big of a "score" line and that's there I folded the flap over. (By the way, I adhered the Designer Paper to the cardstock BEFORE I ran it through so that it cut both at the same time.) Then I took the other end of the cardstock (originally 4-1/4" x 11) and folded it back under the Top Note flap like this:

Packed for Birthday Card

Hmmm...where or where does the time go?! I got swamped again and just realized that I haven't posted since Wednesday. Hopefully this week will be better!

I whipped up this 3-1/2" x 5" card for my niece's birthday using the new Packed for Birthday stamp in the Occasions Mini Catalog. The "Packed for" stamps are fun, but I didn't want to color every single image. It's hard to tell in the photo, but I used some Dazzling Details on the balloons to make the sparkle.

Mouthwatering Watermelon Swap Card

I used the Mouthwatering stamp set from the Sweet Shop Product Suite for my second Occasions Mini Catalog swap. I love these colors together, 2011-2013 In Colors Lucky Limeade and Calypso Coral. I turned the Designer Paper around so that the debossed hearts were up. And the watermelon image was perfect for inking with markers. I colored the seeds black after I stamped the melon.

Tip: For quick cutting, use the 2-1/2" Circle Punch to cut out the round part of the watermelon, then cut along the straight edge.

Snowman Side Spring Card

This card just makes me smile every time I look at it! Inspired by my friend Robin Armbrecht's swap card at our last group meeting, I designed this side spring card for my Stamp Club. There's a great step-by-step tutorial on Splitcoaststampers here. (I will confess, it still confuses me when I make it and try to fold a new one!)

Even with the unique fold, this card will still fit in a regular size Medium envelope. I added a Stampin' Dimensional under the right side of the front flap to hold the card down a little. Because of that, it doesn't quite open all the way, but you can still see the sentiment inside.

I {heart} Hearts Shaker Card

This Valentine card was one of our Stamp Club projects. We used the Holly Berry Bouquet paper from the Holiday Mini Catalog. Make sure to order before January 3rd, when the catalog ends. This is technically "Christmas" paper, but many of the patterns are holiday neutral and the red glitter stripes (on this card) and polka dots are perfect for Valentine's Day!

We used the Shaker Frames under the Top Note die cut with a small piece of Window Sheet to create the shaker under the hearts. We used the Heart to Heart punch to punch small red hearts from the Red Glimmer Paper to go in the shaker.

Designer Paper Ornament & Colored Rhinestone Tip

I'm back!!! Did you miss me? So sorry for my blog silence the last couple weeks. Life got kind of crazy and posting my projects just got pushed to the bottom of the list. I have lots to share and am ready to get back to regular posting, so don't give up on me! I'm very excited to use my new Christmas gift from my hubby -- a mini photo studio to take photos of my projects! I prefer natural light and with the sun going down so early, I just haven't been able to get great photos. Now I'll be able to take photos when I have the most time -- which is usually after the kids go to bed!

Here's a project we made last week in Stamp Club. We took 1/2" x 6" pieces of the Holly Berry Bouquet Designer Paper and wrapped it around a pen. We pulled the curls apart to stretch them out and put them inside a glass ornament. (The Chocolate Chip cardstock ring at the bottom is just for keeping the ornament upright.)

Don't miss the tag! It looks pretty simple using the Pines & Poinsettias stamp set, but the best part is the colored Rhinestones. Yep -- COLORED rhinestones! Nope, it's not a sneak peek product. I used the Basic Rhinestone Jewel Accents and colored them with a permanent marker! Just think of the possibilities!!

Petite Pocket Nugget Box Tutorial

Don't you just hate it when you see a really great project and then just HAVE to order the product used to make it? For me and my fellow demonstrators who attended the Louisville Regional Seminar in October, that was definitely the case with the Petite Pocket die. The biggest wow for me was this little box. Can you believe THIS box came from the Petite Pocket die!? Well, it did! Follow the instructions in my free step-by-step photo tutorial to learn how to make this box yourself.

Note: I did not use any adhesive on the flap of the box. The belly band of designer paper wrapped around the box keeps the flap closed. Slide the belly band down to open the flap and the box.

2011 Christmas Card with My Digital Studio

I'm feeling productive today! I finally hired some help! I was just too overwhelmed and too behind on so many things. I'm embarrassed to admit that I am two months behind on thank you notes, three months behind on birthday cards and my office is a complete disaster (remember, I still owe you pictures of my makeover!) All of that is going to change! My new year is starting NOW!

And to add to the productiveness...I also finished designing our family Christmas card using My Digital Studio. I just uploaded and ordered them. Check! Now on to the rest of my to do list...

Two Tags Stocking Gift Card Holder

This gift card holder was inspired by one that my friend Robin Armbrecht designed for our group meeting last month. I loved Robin's version with red and green and holly, but I didn't have the same products, so I changed things up and created this Marina Mist & Crumb Cake version.

The tag, cut from the Two Tags die on the Big Shot) fits perfectly inside the cardstock sleeve and holds a gift card! The cardstock sleeve is 4-1/4" x 6-1/8" Crumb Cake cardstock. Score on the long end at 1-5/8" and 4-1/2" and then use Sticky Strip to glue it together, leaving one end open.

Occasions Mini Sneak Peek: Bordering on Romance

Here's another yummy sneak peek from the 2012 Stampin' Up! Occasions Mini Catalog! I just love the new framelits and edgelits! I've used both here for this Bordering on Romance card.

To get the smaller Riding Hood Red border around the frame, I cut one the same size and it it in half, then glued it to the back of the white one so that a little bit was showing on either side. (Cutting the next size up created a bigger layer than I wanted for this card.)

I am also loving the Dazzling Details Glitter Glue. I've been using it on everything this past month. I just can't get enough! It needs a little while to dry, but it's a cleaner application than the 2-way glue and Dazzling Diamonds glitter. Check it out in my Online Store here.

Petite Pocket Mini Album

One of the giveaways at the Louisville Regional Seminar was a project kit to create this mini album using the Petite Pocket die. The sample they shared with us used a different stamp set, but that didn't stop me! I used what I had to finish the project. It's it cute!?

Cut and assemble three pockets and then cut 1/2" off one and 1" off another. I used the 2-1/2" Circle Punch to create a new notch in the front of the pocket. Stack the pockets and use the Crop-a-Dile to punch through all three and tie the ribbon.

Turtle & Co. Snail Birthday Card

Third times a charm! I finally got a good picture of this card to share with you! This was one of our Stamp Club projects last month. The card layout is CASEd from the Stampin' Up! Idea Book & Catalog. The inspiration was this Batty for You card on page 26. We used the new Simply Scored Tool to make the lolly...medallion...rosette...whatever you want to call it. The plaid Designer Series Paper is from the Domestic Goddess series. I've been calling this a "sleeper" DSP because I think people kind of write it off because of the domestic imagery, but the patterns on the other side are so bright and cheerful and relatively neutral for other themes. Congratulations Card

This was the card they gave me after completing my Workshop Wow presentation at the Louisville Regional seminar. It's clean and simple -- just my style! Holly Berry Bouquet Notebook

My friend Mary McNeely made these beautiful notebooks for her downline who attended the Louisville Regional seminar and she made an extra for me! Thanks again Mary!!

A loop of Wild Wasabi striped ribbon under the Early Espresso cardstock binding is the perfect place to keep a pen. And Mary rolled up a small piece of coordinating Designer Paper to go inside the pen!

The bookmark is the true beauty of this project. Mary followed an example from the Stampin' Success demonstrator magazine and created a center piece with fabric, buttons, ribbon, and jewels. The back of the bookmark shows how it really works. A stretchy hair band connected with the loop of 1/8" taffeta ribbon gives it just enough stretch to reach around the cover of the notebook. Genius!

Top Note Layout, Take 2

I just love this card layout. You may remember it from this card that I CASEd from my friend Laura Yates. The card is clean and simple, yet utilizes a nice combination of accessories and technique (Big Shot Top Note die, Spice Cake Designer Paper, 2-1/2" Circle Punch, Reinkers & Baby Wipe Technique).

If you haven't tried the Baby Wipe technique before, it's easy! Just fold a baby wipe into quarters. Add drops of reinkers in multiple colors and then use the baby wipe as an ink pad and stamp your image. I did this with the bold leaf and then stamped the outline in Soft Suede over it.

Gently Falling Collage Faux Tile Card

Edited 11-9-11 to add: To do the Faux Tile technique, start by scoring a grid on your cardstock. The Simply Scored Tool works great for this! Then, sponge ink over the cardstock to make the "grout" lines really pop. I used Crumb Cake ink. The last step is stamping your images.

Are you getting tired of this technique? Here's one more sample from my Faux Tile Workshop Wow display board from the Louisville Regional Seminar. I love this collage with the Gently Falling stamp set from the Holiday Mini Catalog. (See it in my Online Store here.)

For the pleated crochet ribbon, I put a piece of Sticky Strip across the cardstock and then put the ribbon over it, pleating it as I went and pushing down to get it to stick good to the card. Easy Peasy!

Beau Chateau Faux Tile Horiztonal Center Step Card

Whew! That's a mouthful of a title! This is my favorite card that I made for my Faux Tile Workshop Wow display board at the Louisville Regional Seminar. I used the Elements of Style stamp set and the coordinating Beau Chateau DSP.

The flowers in the corners of the center piece are images cut out from the DSP. The bird was stamped and cut out. I added 2-Way Glue and Dazzling Diamonds glitter to all of the images to make it sparkle a little.

This is one of my Faux Tile samples that uses a diagonal tile design. To help keep my cardstock straight on the Simply Scored Tool, I cut a 4" x 4" square from a piece of chipboard. (I used the piece that came with one of the Simply Sent Card Kits.) I cut the square in half diagonally and then used it up in the left corner of the scoring tool and held the cardstock against it. Since it's hard to use the ruler at the top with the chipboard in the way, I counted the grooves and scored every 4 grooves, which is equivalent to 1/2". Then just turn the paper and scored the other direction to create a grid.

Elements of Style Faux Tile Card & Workshop Wow Demo

I had the pleasure of helping at the Stampin' Up! Regional Seminar in Louisville on Saturday. I presented a Workshop Wow" demonstration featuring the Faux Tile technique and the new Simply Scored Tool. Here's one of the cards I made for the display board.

This demonstration was different than the one I did in 2009 (read about it here). Instead of a 5 minute presentation on stage in front of 500 demonstrators, I was at a booth with a mirror above me and had smaller groups of people come through to watch me do the same demonstration over and over for 2-1/2 hours straight. I enjoyed the more casual setting and smaller audience and was surprised at how quickly I found a rhythm given the fact that I didn't practice at all. There was much less stress than last time, but my voice was pretty hoarse by the time I finished!

Thanks to Mary Ellen Stites for providing this photo. I'm pointing to the small end of the Simply Scored stylus. This is the best end to use for the Faux Tile technique. Score a grid and then use a sponge to apply ink over it. (I used Crumb Cake ink.) Here's a close-up:

Faith in Nature Pear Card

Oops! I fell asleep before I posted last night, so you get two cards today! This is very clean and simple, but I really love the way it turned out. I used Clear Block C (yes, as in the ones you put your clear mount stamps on) and put Lucky Limeade ink on it and then stamped it on the cardstock. Then I stamped the pear in Soft Suede over it. I used a Blender Pen and the ink pad lid (squeeze the lid on to the pad when it's closed to pool the ink on the lid) to add some colors to the pear. I used Lucky Limeade and So Saffron. It's hard to tell in the big picture, but I added some two way glue and Dazzling Diamonds to one side to make it sparkle!

Gently Falling Sunflower Card

I CASEd a CASE! Here's another card from my card class in Springfield. I CASEd a swap card I received from Sue Scheets. And Sue said she CASEd it from Connie Babbert. It's too cute not to copy, don't you agree?

I used the Fun Flowers die and cut two medium flowers with More Mustard cardstock, then attached them to each other using Stampin' Dimensionals between them. The center is done with the Lattice Square Flower and then punched with the 1-3/8" Circle Punch.

Pines & Poinsettias Thank You Card

I finally got a chance to photograph some more projects to share! Here's one from my Holiday Mini card class in Springfield a few weeks ago. I wanted to use all Holiday Mini products, but I also wanted to keep the cards as occasion-neutral as I could so they could add their own greeting. Here's my take on Pines & Poinsettias. I tried not to make it too Christmas-y. Did I succeed?

The Sky's the Limit

I've been eyeing the Up, Up, & Away stamp set in the catalog, but haven't gotten it yet. I was happy to try it out at the demonstrator retreat a few weeks ago. I made up these cards to send to my downline who were the top sales achievers in our group last month.

I CASEd this card by Jenn Dierchs. I used the same colors and elements as her card, but I tweaked the layout and used the FTL158 sketch from Clean & Simple Stamping.

I love the sentiment: The Sky's the Limit. One of my favorite aspects of my Stampin' Up! business is that it can fluctuate just as my life does. I can take a break when I need to (like to have a baby or make a big move). And when I'm ready, I can focus and work hard. That's me this year. I have some big goals and I'm working hard to meet them. I'm thrilled to be on track so far and excited about the opportunities to come. Gently Falling Faux Tile Card

Here's a card that is the definition of my style. Clean and simple with just the right mix of accessories/tools! Definitely a "Julie Card"! This was one of the cards we made last month in Stamp Club.

The background behind the leaf is done with the Faux Tile technique. It's so easy with the Simply Scored tool! Have you noticed the relatively new feature on my blog called "Popular Posts"? It's on the left side and shows a thumbnail of the top 5 most popular posts from the past month. These are not necessarily things POSTED in the last month, but these are the projects VIEWED most in the last month. I've noticed that the Owl Punch Penguin card I posted last year (almost a year ago exactly) has been among the most popular recently. I'm not sure where the traffic is coming from, but I thought it warranted re-posting the project.

This card was originally part of the Outstanding Owl Punch Class that I held last October, so I did not originally post the tutorial. Sweet Pressed Pumpkin Cookie Sleeve & Video

I absolutely love this little treat project created by Stampin' Up! If I had more time, I'd make these up myself, but...yeah, not gonna happen! I've had my Sweet Pressed Cookie Stamp for over a month now and still have not used it! D'oh! The kids actually got a hold of it and have been playing with it. I have to search the playroom and get it back in the kitchen first. Everyday Elegance Simply Sent Box Tutorial

With the Simply Sent promotion this month, I set out to design a project using one of the kits that was non-conventional. In other words, use a pre-printed card to make something other than a card. I was inspired by a picture of a box that was demonstrated at Convention using a different kit, but I just couldn't figure it out from the photos. So I started from scratch and made up my own box! Don't worry, you won't have to figure it out on your own! I created a tutorial with the measurements so you'll know exactly where to score and cut if you want to make this box at home.

I recently found this card on my desk and realized that I never posted it. This is the card that I designed as a make and take for my new catalog open house back in July. I just love the way that it turned out. I wanted to use the Perfect Pennants die for the Big Shot for something other than making a banner.

Pulled Pastels Tutorial

Last week, my friend Lisa hosted a workshop with me. I always feel challenged to show this group of veteran stampers something that they haven't seen before. And I was thrilled when I succeeded! Ironically, the card that we made was based off a swap card from my upline Kim Peck...from January 2004!! So this technique is nothing NEW, but it's stunning nonetheless. I love bringing new life to old techniques and old projects!

The card uses the Lovely As a Tree stamp set. Do you own this one? I think it's the oldest set in the catalog. I got it in my Demonstrator Starter Kit way back in 2002. I love that you can customize the Starter Kit with the stamp sets and colors of your choice. And when you sign up to be a demonstrator in October 2011, you'll not only get the customize your Starter Kit, you'll also get a FREE BIG SHOT!! The technique I used on this card is called Pulled Pastels. It's a great one to demonstrate at a workshop because you don't need a lot of "stuff" to make it. All you need is Stampin' Pastels and a Versamark pad. First, use cotton balls to spread different color chalks from the Stampin' Pastels (I used Perfect Plum, Always Artichoke, and More Mustard) all over dark cardstock. (I used Night of Navy cardstock.)

Then, stamp your image in Versamark ink over the chalked cardstock. The Versamark ink will pull the chalks off the cardstock where you stamp.

Summer Solstice Birthday Card

It's technically Autumn, but with temps in the 80's today, it sure felt like summer! Here's a card I created over the weekend using the Summer Solstice stamp set. One of the things I enjoy about going to the retreat is the opportunity to borrow and play with stamp sets that I don't own. This was one of them!

I was inspired by the FTL157 layout from Clean & Simple Stamping.

Fancy Favor Owl Box

Oh my goodness! Can you believe how cute this owl is!? I was thrilled to receive this gift from Carol Walsh at our demonstrator retreat. She had four different variations and I should have taken a picture of all four of them, but I thought this guy was the cutest, so I was so happy he landed on my table!

Carol used several punches (notice the Petite Pennant Punch for his nose and feet!) to decorate the Fancy Favor Box that she cut with the Big Shot. Thank you for sharing your talent and creativity with us, Carol!!

Stamping the Day Away: Demonstrator Retreat Gifts

I have spent the entire day stamping! (Really, what would be more appropriate on World Card Making Day! I'm enjoying some time with my fellow demonstrators at a stamping retreat! Yummy food, good friends, and lots of stamping! I made 30 cards today and got a little caught up on some stamping projects.

I fell in love with this bat on Shelli Gardner's blog and just had to make my own. I think Shelli used the Perfect Pennants die for the wings, but I just used the Petal Cone die and cut it apart.

Gently Falling with Baby Wipe Technique

I am completely in love with the Gently Falling stamp set. (Click here to see other blog posts using this stamp set.) Here's a card I made with my Stamp Club this month using the Baby Wipe Technique. Fold a baby wipe into quarters and add drops of reinker to create an temporary "ink pad". Tap your bold stamp on the baby wipe and then stamp on cardstock for a beautiful multi-color image.

I love the layout on this card! I spotted it on page 27 of the Holiday Mini Catalog and new I would I just had to CASE it. Click here to view the Stampin' Up! Holiday Mini Catalog online. The finished card is 3-1/2" x 5-1/2".

Check out the ribbon and button on this card. I used a marker to color the back side of the Very Vanilla Velvet ribbon to color it and then I used a tiny sliver of cardstock to thread the button (attached with glue dots).

Christmas Lodge Bird Thank You Card

I loved this layout from Laura Yates' Holiday Mini swap and adapted it for a different stamp in the Christmas Lodge stamp set. I sent these Thank You cards with the Holiday Mini sampler gifts from my Labor Day special. I wanted to use the products in the sampler, but didn't want to make a Christmas card in September, so I pulled the greeting from Petite Pairs.

I colored the branch and birds with Stampin' Pastels and then added the Dazzling Details glitter glue to add some sparkle to the snow on the branch under the birds.
