Merry Christmas!! & Flurry of Wishes Emboss Resist Card

It's Christmas Eve...well, actually, technically I think it's Christmas morning! I just finished playing Santa for my four darlings and before I get a few winks of sleep, I wanted to post real quick to say Merry Christmas!! I know that I will spend my day playing with the kids, making yummy food, and enjoying family time. I hope you get to spend time with the people you love this Christmas!
Here's one very last Christmas card for you. I was planning to do a video, but just ran out of time.

Stampin' Up! Supplies: Flurry of wishes stamp set, Bermuda Bay ink & cardstock, Shimmer White cardstock, Versamark ink pad, Whisper White Embossing Powder, Heat tool, AquaPainter, Snow Flurry Punch, Rhinestones, Iced Rhinestones, Stampin' Dimensionals

I was inspired by a card that my mom did with her stamp club last month and made this up while I was there for Thanksgiving.

The technique is called Emboss Resist. I embossed the large snowflake in Whisper White embossing powder on Shimmer White cardstock and then used the AquaPainter to watercolor over it. The photo doesn't do it justice! It's gorgeous in person! See More Emboss Resist projects.

A little bit of housekeeping:

SAB Spotlight: Corner Bouquet Emboss Resist

I am not usually a "messy" stamper. I like things clean and simple. Embossing is a borderline "messy" technique because it involves spreading powder on your stamped image and funneling it back into the jar. I kicked it up a notch on the mess level and applied my Basic Gray ink pad directly to the embossed paper to create this card. Yes, you read that right. I smeared my gray ink pad across this card. On purpose. lol But check out the stunning result!

I couldn't decide whether to do this card vertical or horizontal, so I made both. Which layout do you prefer? Leave me a comment and let me know!

Emboss Resist Bliss: Sale-a-bration Sneak Peek

Here's another Emboss Resist project. We made up this calendar cover at my downline meeting earlier this month using the new Sale-a-bration 2011 stamp set "Bliss". I debated whether or not it was too early for a sneak peek, but since I just posted another emboss resist project yesterday, I thought I'd go ahead and share this one now.

I started by stamping the flourish in Versamark ink on Very Vanilla cardstock and embossing with Clear Embossing Powder. Then I sponged Marina Mist over the embossed image (which resists the ink). I used a quarter of a round Stampin' Sponge and "burnished" the ink over the image. Use a small circle motion to rub the ink over the cardstock. The splatter effect is created using the Color Spritzer Tool and Basic Black marker.

My style is usually very clean and simple. My first draft of this project was this monochromatic card.

I felt like it needed more, so I ramped up the vintage style and then turned the card into a pocket calendar cover. The calendar is the perfect thing to keep in the car to track mileage (don't forget to write down your "start" mileage tomorrow as we start a new year!) -- or take it with to workshops so you always know your "next available date".

Supplies: Bliss (SAB set), Marina Mist ink & cardstock, Basic Black ink & cardstock, Very Vanilla cardstock, Versamark ink, First Edition DSP (Occasions Mini), Clear Embossing Powder, Rhinestone Jewel Accents, Large Oval Punch, Victoria Crochet Trim, Color Spritzer Tool

Last Chance Favorites: Petal Pizazz Emboss Resist

I love this card from two years ago. I saw the idea on Shelli's blog. I think it was one of her daughters who originally posted the technique. It's a classic "Emboss Resist", but instead of plain paper, I embossed on a piece of designer paper so the pretty patterns shows through even after you brayer the darker color over it. This bold flower from Petal Pizazz is perfect for this technique! Make sure to snatch it up before it's retired on June 30. Click here to find Petal Pizazz in my Online Store.

Emboss Resist Flower Card

At Stamp Club last month, we made this card using the card using the "Emerging Color" Emboss Resist technique. We started with a 3" x 3" piece of Raspberry Tart DSP and then heat embossed with clear embossing powder the largest flower from Petal Pizazz. Then we brayered Rose Red ink over the flower. The embossed image resists the ink, which we buffed off with a cotton ball, revealing the color (or in this case, patterned DSP) underneath.

Supplies: Petal Pizazz, Cameo Coral cardstock, Whisper White cardstock, Rose Red ink & cardstock, Versamark ink pad, Raspberry Tart DSP, Clear Embossing Powder, Wide Oval Punch, 1/4" Rose Red grosgrain ribbon, Stampin' Dimensionals

Just Believe Emboss Resist

This card is pretty clean and simple, but the emboss resist technique just makes it POP!

I started by stamping the En Francais background stamp in Concord Crush. Then I embossed the flower with white embossing powder. I finished by sponging Bashful Blue ink over the embossed image (which resists the ink). I used a quarter of a round Stampin' Sponge and "burnished" the ink over the image. Use a small circle motion to rub the ink over the cardstock.

Supplies: Just Believe, En Francais, Concord Crush ink & cardstock, Bashful Blue ink & cardstock, Versamark ink, Whisper White cardstock, White Embossing Powder, Heat Tool, Corner Rounder Punch, Concord Crush Ribbon, Stampin' Dimensionals

Ginormous Flowers Cards

I broke out several soon-to-be-retired stamp sets for KWerner's latest Color Inspiration Challenge. What pretty colors she chose this week: Pale Plum, Perfect Plum, Certainly Celery, Sage Shadow, and Bordering Blue. I never would have put these colors together myself, but I love the way they look.

For my first card, I use the Dots are Hot set to make background paper. I love the way the paper turned out, but I wasn't happy with the final card. This square card measures 5-1/4" x 5-1/4".

So, I took another shot at the colors with my original idea and did an Emerging Color card.

"Emerging Color" is a technique based on an emboss resist. I stamped a white sheet of paper with lots of little flowers in different colors. I used flowers from Ginormous flowers and the tiny flower from Flight of the Butterfly. Make sure to keep the pattern really tight and close together. The next step is to clear emboss a larger, bold image over the paper. (I chose a larger flower from Ginormous flowers.) Finally, use a Brayer to cover the cardstock with a darker ink (I used Perfect Plum). Use a cotton ball or tissue to burnish over the embossed images and clear away excess ink. The colors from the flowers stamped underneath with show through.

Supplies (both cards): Ginormous Flowers, Flight of the Butterfly, Dots are Hot, Wonderful Words, Bordering Blue ink/marker & cardstock, Certainly Celery ink/marker, Sage Shadow ink/marker, Pale Plue ink/marker & cardstock, Perfect Plum ink/marker & cardstock, Whisper White cardstock, Coluzzle, Versamark ink pad, Clear Embossing Powder, Winter White Embossing Powder, 2-way Glue, Dazzling Diamonds, 5/8" Certainly Celery grosgrain ribbon, Stampin' Dimensionals

5 Stampin' Up! Hello Irresistible Blooms Cards + Video

Stampin' Up! released brand new product this month! My favorite of these "Online Exclusives" is the Hello, Irresistible Suite! The emboss resist-inspired watercolor designer paper is beautiful! I love that the Irresistible Bloom dies coordinate with both the stamp set and the designer paper. I used the dies to cut out flowers and leaves from the designer paper for both of these cards, which I designed for a Mystery Stamping projecet for my team last month.
