Watercolor Trio Three Ways

Do you watch Top Chef? My husband and I enjoy watching that show and we always crack up when they present their dish and it's something "prepared three ways". They seem to run themselves crazy doing three different versions instead of just concentrating on one and making it really good.

So here's my version: Watercolor Trio three ways!

I did a workshop on Friday night and we made the first card as our make and take. It was mostly new stampers, so I wanted to keep it fairly easy. We stamped in Versamark ink and then rubbed the Stampin' Pastels over the stamped image for the "Poppin' Pastels" technique. A little scallop edge border finished out the card. I showed the stepped up version (right) so they could see how to add additional accessories.

And on Saturday, at my All Occasions Card Class, my stampers made the stepped up version. Note the tiny pearls in the center of the flowers. Also, I tore the right corner and curled it down a little and added the background stamp and some ribbon.

And at the workshop, I showed this alternative project using the same technique and materials. This is the hostess' little girl. Isn't she a doll?! I brought some other samples and talked about how you can use a 6x6 page as a starting point to build a larger scrapbook page. Click here to check out my other scrapbook page samples for more ideas.

Supplies: Watercolor Trio, Script Background stamp, Versamark ink, Old Olive cardstock, Regal Rose ink& cardstock, Whisper White cardstock, Scallop Edge Punch, 3/8" Whisper White Taffeta Ribbon, Pearl Jewel Accents, Rubber Brayer

Peaceful Season Sneak Peek

What a whirlwind week! I've been prepping for my workshop and my card class tomorrow and I don't have anything else photographed and ready to share except for Holiday Mini sneak peeks. I usually like to wait until the catalog starts to post samples, but you'll just have to deal with getting them early. You don't mind too much, do you? (wink!)

Here's another Holiday Mini Catalog sneak peek. I LOVE the way this card turned out for our group mini swap. I used the Level 2 hostess set called Peaceful Season. You can earn this stamp set for free when you host a qualifying workshop between September 1st and January 3rd.

It's hard to see in the photo, but I punched out the globe and put it on a Stampin' Dimensional. It really sets it off! I tucked the Dotted Ribbon border (in Early Espresso cardstock) behind the white cardstock, so only half of it peaks out.

Supplies: Peaceful Season, Early Espresso ink & cardstock, Cherry Cobbler ink & cardstock, Pear Pizazz ink, Crumb Cake cardstock, In Color Patterns DSP, 3/4" Circle Punch, Dotted Ribbon Border Punch, Gold Brads, Paper Piercer, Stampin' Dimensionals

French Foliage Sneak Peek #2

Still struggling with the computer today. And trying to get ready for two weekend events...so I'll keep my post brief tonight. Here's another card with the beautiful new leaf prints set from the Stampin' Up! Holiday Mini Catalog. It's called French Foliage.

It's hard to see the greeting -- it says "A Note of Thanks" stamped in Early Espresso ink on Cajun Craze cardstock, cut out and adhere by word on the circle.

Supplies: French Foliage, Thank You Kindly, Cajun Craze ink & cardstock, Crumb Cake ink , Early Espresso ink, Old Olive ink & cardstock, Very Vanilla cardstock, 2-1/2" Circle Punch, 1/4" Early Espresso Grosgrain Ribbon

Seasonal Sentiments Sneak Peek

I have been having more computer issues. If it's not one thing, it's another. After digging out an old monitor, we seemed to figure out it's the video card that causing a "serious issue" as one error message described it. Hopefully we've got it all squared away now. Sorry I missed my daily post yesterday. I've got another card to share today.

Before I get to that, a quick update on other stuff -- the kids are back at school!! It's so calm and quiet during the day with just the two little ones. I am loving it! Miss Anna is now three months old. I can hardly believe it's been that long. She's doing great and just started rolling over (back to belly) this week! I will be updating our family blog with pictures soon, so watch there for new pics of my cutie pies.

Here's the card I promised you, another sneak peek from the Holiday Mini Catalog (available starting September 1st). The new Designer Series Paper is textured and so perfectly fall-ish and I absolutely love the new jumbo circle punch -- the largest size yet at 2-1/2"!

I originally made it vertical, but then switched to horizontal and traded the real ribbon for a piece of cardstock using the new Dotted Ribbon Punch. Which one do you like best?

Supplies: Seasonal Sentiments, Autumn Spice DSP, Early Espresso ink & cardstock, Cajun Craze cardstock, More Mustard cardstock, 2-1/2" Circle Punch, Dotted Ribbon Punch, Early Espresso 1/4" Grosgrain Ribbon

Here's a quick thank you card I made up to send to people who placed online orders with me this month. I used the Clean & Simple Stamping FTL103 sketch as inspiration. I love the fall colors and this new French Foliage stamp set!

Supplies: French Foliage, Thank You Kindly, Cajun Craze ink & cardstock, Crumb Cake ink & cardstock, Early Espresso ink, Old Olive ink, Very Vanilla cardstock, 1/4" Old Olive Grosgrain Ribbon

Happy New Baby Card

Why do I think that weekends are this magical time when I'm going to catch up on everything? I finally realized that I am just kidding myself! Just because it's Saturday or Sunday doesn't mean I can stop doing the stuff I do the rest of the week: feed the kids, clean up the kitchen, change diapers, entertain the kids, put little ones down for nap, clean up messes, mediate arguments, do laundry...my days go just as quickly (or even quicker!) on the weekends and I find myself up late when the house is quiet finally checking things off my "to do" list. Well, it's late Sunday night and unfortunately, I didn't get as much checked off as I would have liked. But, I did finally get to take pictures of the projects that I've been working on and I have enough to share for the next two weeks!

Thanks for hanging in there and so patiently waiting! Here's a card I made up for a baby gift I need to send. I was inspired by Stacey's Curtain Call Color Challenge Act 44 and the Clean & Simple Stamping Layout FTL101 with a small change.

I made the large medallion from the 2-3/8" Scallop Circle Punch. I punched it once and then attached it to scrap paper and punched again. See this earlier post for details on this technique.

Supplies: Animal Stories, Fun & Fast Notes (greeting), Tempting Turquoise ink & cardstock, Poppy Parade marker, Daffodil Delight marker & cardstock, Whisper White cardstock, Basic Black ink, In Color Patterns DSP, 2-3/8" Scallop Circle Punch, 1-3/4" Circle Punch, Stampin' Dimensionals

My First Workshop

I was cleaning up in my stamp room (imagine that!) a couple weeks ago and came across a couple cards. Ok, I came across A LOT of cards and they are sitting in a pile on my floor right now. But two of them were very special. They were the cards that we made at my very first workshop 8 years ago. I originally signed up as a demonstrator just for the discount, but I had a little open house/workshop and then someone booked a party and the snowball started rolling and eight years later I've made more than just a snowman...I have a whole family!

Have you been thinking about signing up? Maybe you can relate to this: before I decided to sign up, I was counting the stampers I knew who would order from me and trying to figure out how I would make that minimum order. I knew Sally would order this much and Rachel this much and Betty this much... Well, after that first workshop and the couple that followed, I ended up with 5 times my quota!! Are you counting possible sales out on your fingers? I say just go for it! You'll never know unless you try. And whether you're near or far, I'll do what I can to help get you ready for your first event. Click here for more information about becoming a demonstrator and joining my "family".

Here's how I started out 8 years ago.
I don't think I realized back then that these are essentially the same card, just with different stamp sets. (Speaking of which -- can you name those stamp sets!?!)

Just For You Top Note Tag

My friend Mary called me up on Saturday and requested a card for a shower she was attending. She said she wanted to help me "advertise", but I really think she just didn't want to run to the store and buy a card. (wink!) Just kidding, Mary! She's hosting a workshop for me at the end of the month, so it really was great advertising to get people to come to her workshop. Here's what I came up with...I made a tag instead of a card and she tied it on the gift bag.

Stamp Club members are making a different version of this in August. I'll go into more details when I post that one later this week. Stay tuned!

Supplies: Afterthoughts, More Mustard marker & cardstock, Very Vanilla cardstock, Pear Pizzazz cardstock, Sunny Garden DSP, Scallop Circle Punch, Little Leaves sizzlit for the Big Shot, Top Note die for the Big Shot, Crop-a-Dile, Very Vanilla Satin Ribbon, Brights Buttons, Mini Glue Dots

Blushing BrideThank You

Hmm...the name of the color makes it sound like these might be bridal shower thank you cards. They would be appropriate for that occasion too, but I made these up to send out for baby gifts I've received. I used some scraps of Blushing Bride cardstock that I had from die-cutting all those cupcake boxes. My finished card is 3" x 5" and fits in the small notecard envelopes, which I happen to have extras of.

The greeting, punched with the small oval punch is attached to the inside of the card, but visible through the small oval window punched through the card front. Used my brand new Dotted Scallop Ribbon Border Punch (#119275, $15.95) to embellish the card without being too bulky so it wouldn't need extra postage. In fact the only little bump is the tiny pearl in the center of the flower.

Supplies: Silhouette Sentiments, Blushing Bride ink & cardstock, Basic Gray ink, Whisper White cardstock, In Color Patterns DSP, Dotted Scallop Ribbon Border Punch, Small Oval Punch, Basic Pearls Jewel Accents

Simple Cupcake Treat Box

Here's a quick and easy make and take to show off the new Smooch Pearlized Accent. You can't see it in the photo, but the frosting on the cupcake has an iridescent shine. I used the level 1 hostess set Birthday Bakery to create this quick treat box. Click here to check out my cupcake treat pouch I posted a couple weeks ago for a close-up of the Smooched frosting.

I used the Box #2 die for the Big Shot for this box.

Supplies: Birthday Bakery, Jet Black Staz-On, Rose Red ink/marker & cardstock, Blushing Bride marker & cardstock, Whisper White cardstock, Tag Punch, Small Tag Punch, Box #2 die for the Big Shot, Illuminate Top Coat Smooch Pearlized Accent Ink, Blushing Bride, Mini Glue Dots, Stampin' Dimensionals

What do you wish for when you're seven? I know my guy would love a Wii. I made this card for his best friend's birthday last week. When I wish big, I wish for free stamps. I earned SEVEN free stamp sets (any price) for my sales and recruiting during the Sale-a-bration period and I got to choose stamps from the NEW catalog. If you get an "on time" birthday card from me these days, consider yourself lucky! I had to break out my belated stamp for my friend's birthday. I used a new (for me) stamp set, Extreme Elements. Illinois Sales Tax Holiday (& Other States, Too!)

Speaking of school (last night I posted some bookmarks using the First Day stamp set)...the state of Illinois is having a sales tax holiday of 5% from August 6 –15 for all school supplies. The holiday is only for 5%, so if the sales tax for your city is 8.75% (as it is for me here in Champaign), you’ll still be charged for 3.75% for state sales tax.

Click here to see the list of Stampin' Up! products that qualify for the sales tax discount. (This is a great time to get the markers and/or stock up on adhesive!) Please note that you must place your order with Stampin’ Up! during the tax holiday period (which starts TOMORROW, August 6th) in order to receive these items at the discounted tax rate.

JULIE'S SPECIAL BONUS:
Call or Email me with your order and I will pay the leftover sales tax!

julie@the-davisons.com or 217-954-0232

Other states are also having sales tax holidays this month: Alabama (Aug 6-8), Florida (Aug 13-15), Louisiana (Aug 6-7), Missouri (Aug 6-8), New Mexico (Aug 6-8), North Carolina (Aug 6-8), South Carolina (Aug 6-8), Tennessee (Aug 6-8), Texas (Aug 20-22), Virginia (Aug 6-8). These states have no sales tax on school supplies during the dates indicated with some limitations. Contact me for more details.

The discounted tax will automatically figure when you place your order in my Online Store during the sales tax holiday.

First Day Bookmarks

Today we registered the kids for school. I can't wait for school to start!! Is that horrible to wish summer to go so fast? It's just so LOUD at my house. I am looking forward to getting back into a routine and having the big kids (both of them this year!) at school and just the little ones at home during the day. There should be lots less drama all around!

Speaking of school, I made up these bookmarks as a sample for one of my customers (Hi Barb!) who is making bookmarks for her grandson's class. The Two Tags die makes these easy to make up whether you're doing just one or two or sixty!

Supplies: First Day, Jet Black Staz-On ink, Real Red marker & cardstock, Basic Black cardstock, Whisper White cardstock, Marina Mist marker, Pear Pizzazz marker, Scallop Circle Punch, 1-3/8" Circle Punch, Heart to Heart Punch, Two Tags Die for the Big Shot

Bleached Hydrangea

I just got home from my downline meeting in Springfield. What fun! I loved all the sharing and samples everyone brought to display. It always re-energizes and inspires me to be with other demonstrators! Here is one of the make and takes from the meeting. I also did this with my stamp club last month.

The hydrangea is embossed in black and then we "painted" inside the embossed lines with bleach using a cotton swab. The bleach changes the color of the cardstock, but the embossed image remains. If you wanted to, you could add color to the bleached area with Stampin' Pastels or Stampin' Write markers.

The finished card size is 4-1/4" x 4-1/4".

Supplies: Because I Care, Marina Mist ink & cardstock, Versamark ink, Very Vanilla cardstock, Basic Black cardstock, Newsprint DSP, Black Embossing Powder, Basic Black 1/4" Taffeta Ribbon, Large Oval Punch, Scallop Oval Punch, Corner Rounder Punch

I've been packaging up the last few In Color bundles and made up these quick notecards to stick inside the packages.

I used the Notecards & Envelopes (#107311, $5.95) and small pieces of the In Color Patterns Designer Paper stack, which made these cards a cinch! Try it with different designer paper. It's a great way to use up those small scraps!

Supplies: Just Believe (greeting), Concord Crush ink, Whisper White cardestock, Notecards & Envelopes, In Color Patterns Designer Paper, Modern Label Punch, Stampin' Dimensionals

Punched Posies Tunnel Card

Besides all the punching, I think this card looks much harder than it actually is! This was one of our stamp club projects in July.

To create the "tunnel" on the inside, I folded the Pear Pizzazz cardstock in half and then folded each end back to the middle (to form a W). I flattened it out and cut a circle in the center with the Circle Scissor Plus. Use that circle as a guide to stamp the sentiment on the Whisper White cardstock and then decorate the front. So easy!

I was inspired by this card I found on Linda Hansen's blog. Unfortunately, she doesn't list the original artist, so I can't give full credit. The original used the Petal Pizazz stamp set, a great substitute if you don't have Punched Posies. It coordinates with several of our punches too!

Supplies: Punched Posies, Word Play, Thank You Kindly, Concord Crush ink & cardstock, Pear Pizzazz ink & cardstock, Blushing Bride ink & cardstock, Whisper White cardstock, Fancy Flower Punch, 5-Petal Flower Punch, 1" Circle Punch, 1-1/4" Circle Punch, 3/4" Circle Punch, Scallop Circle Punch, Mini Glue Dots, Circle Scissor Plus, Stampin' Dimensionals
