VIDEO: Stampin' Up! Happy Forest Friends Pull Through Accordion Card Tutorial

Have you been following my Project layback series? Each week, I am bringing back an older tutorial and remaking the card with something new! I'm having so much fun going back through old videos and remembering some of my favorites! Last week, I made a full Pull Through Accordion Card featuring the new Happy Forest Friends Suite.

This is the first card that I've made with this new suite from the 2022-2023 Annual Catalog. I love the whimsical images and the neutral colors in the designer paper.

Stampin’ Creative Blog Hop: Birthday Bonaza

Welcome to the Stampin’ Creative Global Blog Hop! Currently you are visiting Julie Davison from Champaign, Illinois in the United States. I am so honored to join this group of talented demonstrators from around the world to share fresh ideas with you each month!  This month, our theme is Birthday Bonaza! September is a big birthday month for my family, so it's fitting that we are sharing birthday projects! Make sure to check out the other blogs in the hop by following the list at the end of this post.
I recently participated in a shoebox swap with some of my local stamping friends. I created two versions of the same card so that they could choose the one that best fit their card-making needs. The Little Elephant stamp set is perfect for celebrating a kid's birthday or the birth day of a new baby!

I used a strip of the fun Dinoroar paper (which is part of the Buy 3, Get 1 Free Designer Paper Sale this month!!). I chose colors for this card based on the designer paper pattern, which includes Pretty Peacock, Pool Party, Mango Melody, and Melon Mambo. Leave me a comment and let me know which combination you prefer!

Umbrella Weather: Baby or Wedding Shower Card

I have a lot of flower stamp sets in my stamp collection, but one thing I didn't have was umbrellas! The Weather Together features umbrellas and is perfect for cards of encouragement and baby and wedding shower cards. I designed this card to focus on celebrations! The cute umbrella is catching the shower of gifts!

I stamped the open polka dots on the umbrella and colored them in with a marker to make them stand out more. The stamped the handle and striped present on the Whisper White cardstock and then cut out the polka dot present and umbrella to pop up over the top. Cutting them out allows you to add  layering and dimension.

Baby Gift Packaging: Tall 2-4-6 Box

http://www.illinoishomepage.net/ciliving-tv/cihobby/creative-gifts-for-teachersWhen I demonstrated the 2-4-6 box on ciLiving last August, I wanted to make a sample that was a little taller. This baby gift box uses a full sheet of 8-1/2" x 11" cardstock instead of a half sheet, but the scoring measurements are still the same. Watch my Creative Corner segment here.

Directions:
  1. Using the Scoring Blade on your Stampin' Trimmer, with the 8-1/2" side at the top of the trimmer, score the cardstock at 2”, 4”, 6”, and 8”.
  2. Turn the cardstock lengthwise and score once more at 2".
  3. Cut the score lines on the shorter end up to the 2" score line you made in step 1. These flaps will become the bottom of your container. (You can completely cut off the small flap on the end.)
  4. Put Tear & Tape adhesive on the side flap and 3 of the 4 bottom flaps and assemble the box.

Pocket Sketch Challenge #7: Zoo Babies Circles Card

Do you ever sit down to make a card and don't know where to start? I love using card layouts (aka sketches) to create cards because that's one less thing I have to thing about. I can choose the stamp set and colors and plug it into a layout that I know will work and feel success in creating cards on my own.

Thank you so much to everyone who participated in the last Pocket Sketch Challenge! I let my friend Margo help me pick the winner this week and we couldn't decide on just one winner, so we picked two! Congratulations to Marianne and Christina! Check out their winnings cards here and here. They will both receive the Pocket Full of Sketches #2 book for free!

It's time for another chance to win! I have a new sketch and a new challenge for you this week. This layout is a great way to show off coordinating designer paper or small stamped images like the ones int the Zoo Babies stamp set.

Pocket Sketch Challenge 7 #PSC07: Card Layouts to Inspire -- play along to win a free card-making tool

You can use the layout to inspire you, but if you would like the convenience to using the same cutting measurements that I did, you'll need the following pieces (colors refer to my card above for reference):

  • 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" Strawberry Slush cardstock
  • 5-1/4" x 4" Baked Brown Sugar cardstock
  • 5" x 3-3/4" Whisper White cardstock
  • Various Circle Punches
Now it's your turn! Create a card or project inspired by this layout and add a direct link to your post below. Be sure to share my sketch challenge graphic and link back to this post so your friends know how to play along too! Link up by next Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at 11:55 pm. I'll select my favorite entry and that person will win a free copy of the Pocket Full of Sketches #2 book!

Makeover Monday: One Tag Fits All Baby Card

I'm a few hours late because I feel asleep working last night, but I'm going to back-date this post because I can't have "Makeover Monday" on Tuesday! ha ha!

I teamed up with my friend Jen Davidson again for a card makeover featuring the One Tag Fits All stamp set from the Occasions Catalog. Check it out:

Before

Makeover Monday AFTER Card featuring One Tag Fits All #stampinup www.juliedavison.com
After

Jen tends to create monochromatic cards because she's not sure what colors to pair together. My advice is to choose designer paper with several colors, like the Lullaby design in the "After" card. Then pull the color combination from that design. In this case, I didn't end up using any additional colors from the design (Hello Honey, Coastal Cabana, Pistachio Pudding, and Sahara Sand), but by using a design that incorporates both the Hello Hone and the Coastal Cabana, it pulls those two colors together and makes them seem less random.

Other changes:
  • I extended the designer paper to both edges of the card.
  • I changed the shape of the greeting layer to better fit the image size and layered it.
  • I stamped the image in black and colored it to make it POP.
  • I changed the ribbon to a wider piece of cardstock to create a strong base and "anchor" down the stamped image.
If I could only change ONE thing about Jen's card it would be to stamp the image in black and color it. This single thing would really make her card pop. Not sure which black ink to choose?
