Serene Silhouettes: Watercolor Wash Technique

I love the simplicity of this card, which was inspired by a swap I received from my friend Karla Endris. The technique is so colorful and eye-catching, yet simple. I whipped up some to send for Thank You notes last month. If you received one -- thanks again!! I need to come up with a new design for December thank yous and get started on those ASAP!

Here's how to do the Watercolor Wash Technique:
  1. Use a watercolor paintbrush or the Aquapainter and pick up ink color from the inside lid of an ink pad. (Push down on the closed lid to pool the ink in the lid.)
  2. Brush the color over neutral cardstock.
  3. Rinse the brush. (I squeeze a little water from the Aquapainter and dab it on a paper towel.)
  4. Repeat with coordinating colors.
  5. Allow cardtstock to dry. Stamp image over watercolored paper using a dark color such as Basic Gray or Staz-On ink.
On this card, I used Summer Starfruit, Calypso Coral, and Baja Breeze. And because I was making so many cards, I actually put a couple drops of reinker inside the Aquapainter with the water!

Brayered Gingham Serene Silhouettes Card

It's the last day of July and as I look back, I think I was truly home less than half the month! I've been on the go and trying to catch up in the few days I was there. I'm in Michigan this week, staying at my parents' house. The kids are going to camp and the hours with the little ones goes way too fast! I'm behind on posting a video for my Stamp of the Month Club. I still need to film it! And I'm trying to finish up the cards to mail the packages tomorrow. ((sigh)) and August is already upon us!

Here's the second card in the series for my July Stamp of the Month Club. (Click here for club details.) I love the way this turned out, especially with the pierced border around the Apothecary Accents Framelits. You know I love when products coordinate!

Have you seen this Brayered Gingham technique? It's super easy. Just brayer ink on one side of the Stripes Embossing Folder and run your cardstock through the Big Shot. Clean the embossing folder off and brayer a second color and run your cardstock through in the opposite direction. The possibilities are endless!

Serene Silhouettes Father's Day Card

Sorry for the blog silence. This week was so busy and I was so exhausted that I went to bed at 8:30 last night! If you know me, you know that's REALLY early! And I actually went to bed at that time, I didn't just fall asleep in my recliner! lol I'm feeling rested today and ready to tackle the rest of my "to do" list in between Father's Day activities.

Here's a card I made for my father-in-law. I saw another card with this layout online. I can't remember where I saw it, but the layout got stuck in my head.

Note: I used smalls slivers of Very Vanilla cardstock to "faux stitch" the button. Click here to see how I did this on another project.
