Serene Silhouettes: Watercolor Wash Technique

I love the simplicity of this card, which was inspired by a swap I received from my friend Karla Endris. The technique is so colorful and eye-catching, yet simple. I whipped up some to send for Thank You notes last month. If you received one -- thanks again!! I need to come up with a new design for December thank yous and get started on those ASAP!

Here's how to do the Watercolor Wash Technique:
  1. Use a watercolor paintbrush or the Aquapainter and pick up ink color from the inside lid of an ink pad. (Push down on the closed lid to pool the ink in the lid.)
  2. Brush the color over neutral cardstock.
  3. Rinse the brush. (I squeeze a little water from the Aquapainter and dab it on a paper towel.)
  4. Repeat with coordinating colors.
  5. Allow cardtstock to dry. Stamp image over watercolored paper using a dark color such as Basic Gray or Staz-On ink.
On this card, I used Summer Starfruit, Calypso Coral, and Baja Breeze. And because I was making so many cards, I actually put a couple drops of reinker inside the Aquapainter with the water!

For tonight, I have another "You Are Loved" card to share. Usually, I do three cards for my Stamp of the Month Club series, but this month, you get an extra card since I couldn't decide on just three! Who doesn't love an extra freebie!? Want to join? Read more about this Online Club here.

Stamp of the Month Club: You Are Loved

Christmas is over and I'm already thinking ahead to the next holiday. (Don't get me wrong, I'm still very much enjoying the Christmas season with leftover cookies, time with family, and freshly fallen snow.) But when it comes to crafting, I'm thinking spring! The stamp set I chose for the December Stamp of the Month Club is "You are Loved". It's a Valentine's Day set, but can be used for other occasions, as you can see with this card.

You can get this and three other hand-stamped cards with the Clear Mount "You Are Loved" stamp set when you join my Stamp of the Month Club. Read more here.

Spritz Resist Technique: Snowflake Christmas Card

This technique was demonstrated on stage at the Lansing Regional Seminar in November. I can't remember what images they used or what the card looked like, I just jotted down the basic steps in my notebook and had a vision of this card in my head.

I don't have time for a video right now, but it's on my to-do list for this week, so stay tuned! Can't wait? Here's the basic steps:
  1. Die cut shapes with cardboard (I used the cardboard from Designer Paper) and lay them on a piece of Whisper White cardstock. (For this card, I stamped the snowflake images first.)
  2. Fill the Stampin' Sprizter with rubbing alcohol and reinker (I used Island Indigo). Quickly Spritz over the cardstock.
  3. Remove cardboard shapes and allow to dry completely.
Stampin' Up! Supplies: Snowflake Soiree stamp set, Delightful Dozen stamp set, Island Indigo ink & cardstock, Whisper White cardstock, Silver Glimmer Paper, Stampin' Spritzer, Snowflake Flurry Die (Big Shot), 1-3/4" Circle Punch, Rhinestone Jewel Accents, Cardboard

Twisted Card: Scentsational Gift Card Holder

Merry Christmas!! I know it's been quiet here for the last few days. I've been traveling and spending time with my family. I hope that you are doing the same and making happy memories!

Here's a last minute idea if you're still packaging Christmas gifts. It's a gift card holder with a unique shape!

My friend Cheryl Soerensen showed me how to make this Twisted Card. I ran out of time to make a tutorial, but I'll design another and share a video tutorial in the next week or so. In the meantime, this is how you make it:
  1. Start with a piece of cardstock cut in half long-wise: 4-1/4" x 11".
  2. Score a diagonal line from one corner to the opposite corner.
  3. Fold on the score line. Fold in half to make a card with even sides.
To make the designer paper layers, trim 1/4" off each side and use the cutting blade instead of the scoring blade using the instructions above.

Don't worry, I'll do a video to show you how! Stay tuned!
Updated, 2-4-13: Watch the video tutorial for the Twisted Card here.

Snowflake Interlocking Framelit Card

Here's another sample with the Interlocking Framelits technique. Did you see the tutorial I posted yesterday? Make sure to check it out here. This card uses the Label Collection Framelits for a slightly different look. The concept is the same, but the measurements are a bit different. The card base is 4-1/4" x 11" and I scored it at 2-3/4" and 8-1/4".

We haven't had any snow here in Central Illinois yet (which is just fine by me!), but I love the combination of Pool Party, Island Indigo, Silver Glimmer Paper, and Snowflake Soiree!

TUTORIAL: Interlocking Framelits Card

My friend Dawn Olchefske recently posted a Christmas wreath version of this card and I've had a few inquiries looking for my summer floral version, so here it is! This card is so fun and looks much more complicated than it is! I was inspired by this card posted by another demonstrator friend, Rachel Chamberlain. I changed the size a little on Rachel's card and made it square. Make sure to check out the printable tutorial, which includes the measurements and tips for making this card!

Stampin' Up! Designer Rosette Ornament

I am doing a couple craft fairs this season. I normally don't do them...mostly because I don't have the time to make stuff to sell nor the time to sit all day at one. But I caved! There's just so much cute stuff at Christmas, that I couldn't help it! With the help of my friend Wiko, I made LOTS of little goodies, ornaments, etc and hopefully I will finish the last show without too much leftover!

One of the items we made to sell were these ornaments using the Stampin' Up! Designer Rosette Die. I copied a swap that I received at the Lansing Regional seminar. I can't remember who gave it to me and there's no name on it....but I found what I think is the original design on Stampin' Connection, so I have to give credit for this awesomeness to Shari Fritz!
