Hi!  My name is Susan LaCroix and I am Julie's guest blogger today.  I am also her mom!  Living so far away from each other, we don't get to stamp together too often but when we do, we have lots of fun!  I just know that Julie and Jim are having a blast on their cruise!


When Julie asked me to guest blog, it didn't take me long to pick a technique - right now my favorite thing to do is watercolor, so I can't wait until my Blendabilities Markers arrive!  But in the meantime, my Aquapainter and ink pads work just great!    Start with a layer of light color.  After it dries, add darker tones or colors to shade and highlight your image.

I love this little trick that Melody shared on a Stampin' Up! Corporate Blog post. You can use the Word Bubble Framelits to cut just part of the cardstock to make a bigger Word Bubble shape. Melody shared some other tips for different ways to use the Word Bubble Framelits here.

Retro Fresh Washi Tape Sale-a-bration Birthday Card

As a demonstrator, I participate in card swaps to trade card ideas and get samples to share with my customers. Some of my favorite swaps come from my friend Georgia Giguere. Her "simple but stellar" style appeals to me and I usually end up "CASEing" her cards! Today's card is one that I copied from one of Georgia's swaps. I love how she used the Retro Fresh Washi Tape at the bottom of the card. The only thing I changed was using a different framelit to cut out the See Ya Later sentiment.

Here's a card I CASEd from my friend Mary Ellen Stites. I changed the colors and only used a half doily on my card. The full stamp in You're Lovely coordinates with the Deco Label Framelits, but the center of the stamp fits perfectly in the 1-3/4" Circle Punch, so there's two ways to use it!

TIP: To get the chevrons on the ribbon both facing toward the center, cut the ribbon in half and turn one half to face the other direction.

AW13: Punched Starburst Sun Card

It's time for another Around the World Challenge! This month, we're doing sketch challenges. The sketch this time is meant to be a scrapbook layout, but I used it to create a card instead. Click here to see what the rest of the Design Team has created and play along with us!

I kept the same basic elements of the sketch with something in the corners and the focal point on the right side. I used the 1-3/4" Scallop Circle Punch to create the clouds AND the sun on this card. Here's how:

1. Punch a Scallop Circle.
2. Use removable adhesive or just a small bit of adhesive to adhere the scallop circle punch to a piece of scrap paper.
3. Line up the scallops so the point falls in the middle of each scallop.
4. Punch again and remove from scrap paper.

Sweet Sorbet Tag Topper Punch Treat Box

One of the make and takes at our team meetings this month and for my Stamp Club was this cute little box using the Scalloped Tag Topper Punch. Check out the video tutorial at the end of this post to learn how to make this box!

We used the Sweet Sorbet Designer Paper and twine from the Sweet Sorbet Accessory Pack. You can get either one of these for free when you buy $50 or more during Sale-a-bration, which ends March 31. (Learn More.) But do you recognize the stamp? It's from the Hip Hip Hooray Card Kit! I love that the card kit includes a small stamp set and ink spot...and a box to store them in! I attached the outline rubber to the lid of the box so I could see the stamps easily and then I put all the extra pieces inside the box.

Here's the video tutorial for the Tag Topper Punch Treat box. The cardstock is 2" x 6-1/2" and is scored at 2-3/4" and 3-3/4". The side pieces are 1-1/2" x 1-1/2", scored at 1/4" from the sides.

Spring Tulips Flap Fold Card

We had a great time at our team meeting last night. It's always fun to get together with other demonstrators and stamp and share and inspire each other. Last night's meeting started off with our first Stamp for a Cause event. We turned old card swaps into cards to donate to the Ronald McDonald House for guests to use. Many hands make light work. In one hour, we made over 1,200 cards!!

It was my turn to bring make and takes to the meeting. Here is one of the projects that I designed. I did a spring version of the Flap Fold Card that I shared back in November.

 

The Pistachio Pudding cardstock is 4 ¼” x 11” and scored at 2 ½” and 6¾”. Watch my video tutorial to learn how to make this wow card! (Note: The stamp set and colors are different, but the basic template for the card is the same.)

VIDEO Tutorial: Glitter Window Card

Looks like March is going to "come in like a lion" this year with a nasty winter forecast for this weekend, but I am thinking SPRING in my stamp room! You'll love the soft colors and pretty flowers of today's card. It's the last card in my February Stamp of the Month Club series. I played with spotlighting in a different way for this card; I used glitter to highlight the stamped image. Be sure to watch my quick video tutorial below to find out how to make this sparkly window.

How to Make a Glitter Window:

1. Stamp image on card front.
2. Punch a circle (or other shape) where you want to glitter window to be.
3. Apply clear contact paper over the hole on the back of the card front so the sticky side is showing in the front.
4. Apply Dazzling Diamonds Glitter over the sticky contact paper.
5. Tap off access glitter.
6. Adhere colored stamped images to the back of the card front.
