Pictogram Punches Valentine Card for GDP020

I took a little creative break yesterday to create a card inspired by the latest Global Design Project challenge. Good thing I double-checked the deadline because if I had waited till tomorrow to post, I would have missed it! I think I have an hour to spare!

This week, the Global Design Project Challenge theme was "CASE the Designer". It was fun to take copy the ideas from a card and make it my own. I tried to incorporate as many elements from the inspiration card as I could. Leave me a comment and let me know how you think I did!

CASEd elements: Black and White stripes, small gold hearts, large gold heart, small red glitter heart, "I {heart} U" sentiment, thread/twine on either side of the heart.

Sketch Challenge Reminder + Best Thoughts Card

There's just a couple days left to participate in my Pocket Sketch Challenge #6. So far, there's only one entry. How sad! I really like this layout and think I'm going to try it again with some Sale-a-bration products this afternoon. You have until Tuesday night, so there's still time to make a card and share it. I created this card with the Best Thoughts hostess set when I created the Sketch Book over the summer. This was probably my 6th attempt at watercoloring the flower. One thing I have found is that simple is better. I tend to over-think and over-do it and then it turns into a big mess. For this one, I just painted the color all over with the AquaPainter and then went back and added some more color in the middle and let it be. It's hard to see in the photo, but I also added a very faint shadow around the entire image to make it "pop".

VIDEO: 7 Birthday Cards+ Tips for Party Pop-Up Dies

If I could only get one new product from the 2016 Stampin' Up! Occasions Catalog, it would be the Party Pop-Up dies. They make fun pop up cards super simple! Who wouldn't love receiving an interactive birthday card like this one?

I created a series of cards using the Party Pop-Up dies for a demonstration I prepared for our team open house earlier this month. From creating pop up cards to cutting apart the images to use a focal points, you're going to love all of the ideas I have to share with you!

Watch this video tutorial for some tips on using the Party Pop-Up dies and six more card ideas using the Party with Cake stamp set and Party Pop-Up dies.

Tips:

• Pre-score your cardstock to line up the die before die-cutting. I used paper for the inside pop-up that was 7-3/4" x 4-3/4".
• Use the Precision Base Plate to get a smooth clean cut each time!
• The Big Shot Die Brush will make removing the little pieces from the die a cinch!
• Save the little pieces to use on your card -- or in a shaker!
• Try cutting apart the pop up element to use as the focal point on your card.
• Use the Wink of Stella Clear Glitter Brush to add sparkle to the cake layers.

Valentine Sampler Notecards

We had a great time at Laurie's class on Sunday creating the beautiful 8" x 8" Valentine Sampler I shared with you last week.

I used some of the extra pieces to create these simple notecards. I just put the squares on Whisper White Notecards and Envelopes and added a greeting stamp. They were so easy! It's hard to tell in the photo, but I used a variety of greetings -- "welcome baby", "congrats", "happy birthday", "thinking of you", "thank you". So even though they started on a "Valentine" project, the pieces are versatile enough for any occasion!

Pocket Sketch Challenge #6: Bohemian Flower Patch Card

Using a card layout or sketch is like following a recipe to bake a cake. You pick out the flavor and the icing, but following a recipe takes all the guesswork out of it you can focus on the part you love: baking (and eating!) it.

Stampin' Up! In the Meadow Masculine Card

Control Freaks Blog Tour: Valentine Sampler + Sky is the Limit Card

It's time for another Control Freaks Blog Tour! Whether you came from Melissa Davies' Rubberfanatics blog or you're just arriving -- welcome!! I am excited to be a stop on your inspiration journey this month. Our theme this month is "Love is the in Air".

I used the limited-edition Sky is the Limit stamp set (Wood-Mount Rubber #141282 or Clear-Mount Rubber #141349) for my first project, a valentine card. You can earn this stamp set for free when you order $50 or more during Sale-a-bration. It's hard to see in this picture, but I stamped three clouds in Blushing Bride ink around the greeting.

I absolutely love the way this next project turned out. I got a request for a private class. The hostess wanted to create a Valentine Sampler and this is what I came up with! I designed the sampler using pieces from the 140551 Love Blossoms Embellishment Kit, which I am including in the class fee. The finished size is 8" x 8".

The squares are 2" x 2" layered on to 2-1/4" x 2-1/4" pieces of Rose Red, Blushing Bride, or Whisper White cardstock. Here's a close-up of some of the squares so you can see the detail. I used the Gold Wink of Stella on the small wooden heart.

TIP: To line up the squares perfectly on the 8" x 8" base cardstock, create a template with a piece of cardboard. Cut a square out of the middle. I cut mine so the outside border is 1/2" on each side. Then use mini clothespins to hold the template to your cardstock. Start by gluing down the squares in each corner and then center the sides in between.
